How To Stop Mould In The Bathroom
Written by PGS Admin

No matter how clean you keep your bathroom, there is always going to be the possibility of mould growing on, under, or behind any of the surfaces. This is because mould isn’t caused by a lack of cleanliness, but high levels of humidity, common in most bathrooms. Mould can be especially damaging in areas where risk factors are extremely high such as in a basement bathroom because you are combining two of the most humid rooms in your house.

While you can continue to clean mould from the surfaces of your bathroom using specialised mould removal products, or a mixture of household bleach and water, it is often best to prevent mould from forming in the first place.

Let’s take a look at some of the best ways to prevent mould from growing in your bathroom:

Proper Ventilation- one of the biggest causes of mould growth in your bathroom is improper ventilation. Without good ventilation, your bathroom will remain overly humid and mould can form very quickly. Ensure that your bathroom has proper ventilation for its size and leave your bathroom fan on for at least 30 minutes after your shower.

Squeegee Your Shower- once you are done taking a shower, use a handheld squeegee to clean the shower walls of any excess water which can lead to mould growth.

Fix Leaks Immediately- if you have any water leaks in your bathroom, be sure to have them repaired immediately by an experienced plumber. This will help keep mould from forming.

Keep Towels And Rugs Clean And Dry- don’t leave wet towels or rugs laying on the floor in your bathroom as these can lead to increased moisture and mould growth.

Remove Wet Sponges, Loofahs Or Bottles From Shower- don’t leave wet sponges, loofahs or bottles in your shower. The additional moisture can lead to an increase in humidity, which can lead to mould growth.

If you are experiencing increased mould growth in your bathroom, be sure to contact an experienced professional plumber who can help rid your bathroom of mould and prevent new growth.
